Creativity, freedom, and the birth of Wanderluxe didn’t come from a perfectly curated moment. They rose from contrast. After forty days in a hospital bed battling COVID pneumonia and respiratory failure, I knew I needed more than recovery. I needed renewal.

I found it in Tulum. Just months after coming off oxygen, I was swimming with sea turtles, laughing with friends, and breathing easier underwater than I had on land. In that turquoise clarity, the weightless joy of simply being alive, I felt inspiration collide with freedom. That moment became the spark that grew into Wanderluxe: a life and brand built with intention, artistry, and soul.

Most entrepreneurs chase freedom, but many are exhausted before they even find it. They’ve built businesses that look successful, reached milestones, yet they’re still working around the clock. I know this story well because I lived it.

When my girls were young, I dove deep into the world of entrepreneurship, building a massive endeavor: a global tech platform connecting sustainable supply chains to fashion brands worldwide. On top of that, I was in a business bootcamp five days a week, working a second job as a fashion designer to pay the bills, and juggling school drop-offs, a new puppy, travel events in Silicon Valley, and dance recitals. I was burnt out – completely depleted – even though I loved almost every moment of building what had become my fourth baby.

Our mission was clear: build, scale, sell, and retire early. But life had other plans. After my hospitalization, my business partner shut the business down and returned the funds to investors. Overnight, everything I had poured a decade of my energy into was completely gone.

And yet, in that loss, I found clarity. The experience didn’t leave me empty, it left me wiser, stronger, and more determined to build from a place of alignment, freedom, and sustainability. I realized that hustle and burnout are not markers of success; they’re warning signs. And it’s possible to build a life and business that honors both your vision and your well-being.
